INFLUENTIAL and world renowned reggae artist, Marlon Asher will once again grace the stages of Trinidad with two live performances tomorrow night.

The local reggae icon is known for his foundation-based and positive lyrical content and will be performing with fellow local lyricist, Prophet Benjamin at the Belmont Community Centre. He will be joined by numerous reggae-matical deejays including Black Chariot, Nyahbinghi, New Chapter and Isaiah Sound System, among others. The now “Ganja Cowboy” also joins a long list of Jamaican and local acts who will give full performances at the 94.1 hosted WETA fete in Arima.

Asher continues to stamp his name across the globe as an artiste of rooted values and intrinsic traits that can hardly be found in the more recognised international singers of today.

The Chaguanas-based singer has indeed infiltrated the global music charts with lyrics based on a positive lifestyle, kindness, peace, love and humility. With his unique style of singing and biblical referencing through song, Asher continues to cross countless borders carrying his name and message.

Asher recently returned from his fourth successful tour of Amsterdam on July 21. He has been hailed as a ‘hero’ in many countries including Holland, for his introductory hit single ‘Ganja Farmer’, and continues to dominate the world reggae stage with controversial lyrics.

Asher was originally scheduled to go to Amsterdam to begin shooting the video footage of a collaborated effort with Holland’s Leah Rosier, entitled “Amsterdam”. Before he left Trinidad, he contacted his personal manager Geron Woodruff, to see if it was possible to perform at some shows while he was there. The hook-up was a success and Asher rocked the European airwaves for about three weeks with headline acts at numerous shows, including the Black Cross Festival.

Asher was pleased to return to Amsterdam and explained that the tour was a great success.

“I didn’t just want to go there and do a video alone. I wanted to perform. This tour I must say was a greater learning experience for me since I had to headline most of the shows. There were a lot of other European and Jamaican artistes but I was the main performer for about five shows. It was a better experience for me because I had to work a little harder. Most of the shows were band shows, so there was a lot of practicing and singing at the same time. This tour was definitely one of my better learning experiences you know,” explained Asher.

The local reggae icon made particular mention of some of the greater benefits he received on his fourth tour. He added that he felt “at home” and was lucky enough to establish some great collaborations and connections on this tour.

“I am now a household name in Amsterdam. I’ve been welcomed and had the opportunity to play with the Rude Rich and High Notes band. They are a big reggae band in Europe that only play for older artistes like Ken Boothe and so on. I am the youngest artiste they have ever played with simply because my music style and type of singing. My music fitted their genre. I got to record some live music with the band and currently I’m doing an album with them. There is also another album we’re working on with a producer called Asher E and Blackstar Fondation. These things prove that this tour was especially good for me because I’m coming out with two albums you know,” continued Asher.

Asher spoke about his rise to the international stage from introductory hit single ‘Ganja Farmer’. He stated he never knew it would be such a global smash and thanked God for his divine intervention and leadership.

He continued, “After singing the ‘Ganja Farmer’ song, a lot of places that marijuana is legal or semi-legal wanted me to come do shows there. They kinda used my song as their theme and an anthem in some way. Places like California, Arizona, Amsterdam and Jamaica. When you do something out of the goodness of your heart, you don’t really study where it would take you. I love music and got the inspiration from God, it all depended on where God wanted it to go, you know.”

The continuously rising artiste made it clear that he was not into music to just simply be a part of it. He saw his input as a great factor toward bringing across a message of one love and respect in all nations. Asher added that type of music that is currently aired over the radio now is not what it used to be. He then proudly stated that there would soon be a great reggae come-back.

“I would never look at myself as an industrial artiste because of the fact that I don’t just do music to make money. My music is more futuristic, about things to come you know, things to expect, things to comfort the mind…a more spiritual vibes. Roots-rock-reggae music, and I must say this, is going to make a big come-back. It’s stated that the stone that the builder refuses will be the head corner stone you know.

Manager, Woodruff revealed that Asher’s music can be listened to, legally downloaded or bought via Amazon.com, iTunes.com, MarlonAsher.com and eb.reggae.com.
